May 29, 2013 – Jesup, GA – The Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia had two teams running in the Tough Mudder competition in Palatka, FL on May 18, 2013. Dr. Matt Valosen, Ben Bryant, Page Blanton, Hamp Blanton and Ceci Mook made up Team Jesup. Stephen Hutcheson, P.A., Mary Anne Hutcheson, Sarah Jones, Jay Jones, Charlie Moore, Jessica Moore and Jackson Howell represented Team Waycross.

The Tough Mudder is billed as “probably the toughest event on the planet,” and is a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, having raised over $5 Million dollars to date. Designed by British Special Forces, this 12 mile course had 20+ obstacles that tested runners both mentally and physically. Obstacles included mud, fire, ice-water, cargo nets, a log carry, and 10,000 volts of electricity.

TeamBJI-ToughCourseBJI ran on behalf of two charities, the Warrior Transition Unit at Ft. Stewart, and the Southeast Cancer Unit in Waycross. The Warrior Transition Unit establishes conditions that allow wounded warriors to focus on their mission to heal. They provide services to both the soldier and their family to facilitate their transition back to the force or to a productive civilian life. The Southeast Cancer Unit assists patients and families dealing with the hardships associated with cancer. Thanks to three extremely generous sponsors, Mossy Pond Retrievers, VIP Office Essentials, and Prime South Bank, Bone & Joint was able to raise $1500 in cash and other donations for these two deserving charities.

TeamBJI-ToughFinish“It was an honor to represent the Bone & Joint Institute and run on behalf of these two deserving charities. It was challenging, but was also an enormous accomplishment to complete the course. I look forward to doing another Tough Mudder in the future,” said P.A. Stephen Hutcheson.
