Total Knee Replacement at Wayne Memorial Receives 5-Star Rating

December 8, 2006 – Wayne Memorial Hospital has just received the prestigious 5-Star rating for Total Knee Replacement Surgery from Healthgrades, making the local institution the only hospital in southeast Georgia to receive such a high ranking for knee replacement surgery. HealthGrades, the leading healthcare ratings organization in the nation, has just released its 2007 annual Hospital Quality Study in America, and has ranked over 5000 US Hospitals. No other hospital in the Brunswick, Savannah, Waycross, Valdosta, or Thomasville received the 5-Star knee replacement rating.

HealthGrades, through its Ninth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study, provides ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals. Millions of consumers and hundreds of the nation’s largest employers, health plans and hospitals rely on HealthGrades’ independent ratings to make healthcare decisions based on the quality of care.

Knee replacement at Wayne Memorial Hospital joins other 5-Star rated hospitals such as Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta, MCG Health Hospital in Augusta, Hughston Orthopaedic Hospital in Columbus and Saint Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida in receiving the 5-Star rating for total knee replacement surgery from HealthGrades for 2007.

“Providing high-quality outcomes for total knee replacement surgery requires a team approach. I am pleased with the progress our joint replacement team has made in recent years. I honestly believe that total knee replacement patients at Wayne Memorial Hospital receive a superior quality of care from start to finish,” says Dr. J. Lex Kenerly, III, Orthopedic Surgeon. “HealthGrades handed out this 5-Star rating based on how successful our knee replacement surgeries have been at Wayne Memorial. I would also like to note that I truly believe our knee replacement patients have, in addition, received a greater level of care and compassion during their surgery and rehabilitation.”

Wayne Memorial Hospital Administrator Charles Morgan is pleased with the HealthGrades findings for 2007, which were released in October. “Hospitals were assigned a 1-Star, 3-Star, or 5-Star quality rating and I am ecstatic that our Orthopedics team received the highest level 5-Star rating. It has been a total team effort and I commend all our staff who has worked hard to provide top-notch medical care to our total knee replacement patients. This proves that if you want the best care, you can find it at home at Wayne Memorial Hospital,” says Morgan.
Director of Surgical Services, Pam White, RN, agrees. “We have been extremely successful in our outcomes from our patients who come to Wayne Memorial needing total knee replacement. We have involved the entire team in providing an excellent level of care. We’ve worked hard to receive this rating and I commend all who have worked to make this honor possible.”
